Genomic instability, visible by light microscopy
as breaks and rearrangements in different chromosomes
in a variable proportion of metaphase
cells, is a hallmark of a group of characteristic
hereditary diseases. The underlying genetic defect
predisposes patients to different types of
cancer. Three important examples are presented
here.
